Robin Good, the brand new DVD from Veggie Tales, is out and it has been a hit at our house for the last few weeks! Everyone in our household (parents included) waits with eager anticipation for the latest creation from Veggie Tales. This DVD certainly did not disappoint. With a new twist to the age-old tale of Robin Hood, Robin Good shares some valuable life-lessons with lots of Veggie Tales humor.
“Robin Good has a mission – fundraising from the rich and giving to the poor! But when greedy Prince starts stealing the townspeople’s hams, donations are down and Robin’s band of friends desert him to give robbing a try. Can Robin overcome his hurt, show his friends what’s right and restore the townspeople’s hope?”
The lessons are three-fold in this DVD: (1) Help the less-fortunate, as Robin Good does with his fundraising (selling candy bars and lemonade), (2) Do what is right, even when your friends do not, (3) when people hurt you, give your burdens to God and He will take care of you.
Robin Good’s “Merry Men” became calloused that the King was taking all of the people’s hams (yes hams, as in the meat) that they decided to start stealing them back. Robin Good refused to join them because he knew that stealing was wrong. The Not-So-Merry Men left him high and dry, leaving Robin Good with a deep sadness and sense of betrayal…as well the Prince who thinks he is the one stealing hams. In the end, Robin Good saves the townspeople from a giant attack and nominates the good Sheriff to take over guarding the town. Robin Good also learns how to forgive his friends with God’s help.
The verse Bob and Larry use to tie everything together is…
“Give your burdens to the LORD, For he will take care of you.” -Psalm 55:22
I was so happy to see Bob and Larry back for the introduction and conclusion in this DVD (this part was missing from The Little Drummer Boy)! In the mini-skit before the main story, Junior Asparagus play Lenny, who thinks that everyone has forgotten his birthday. His mom sings him the most beautiful song, which I think I need to learn and sing to my boys! The Silly Song entitled “Bubble Rap” is hilarious and reminiscent of one of my favorites, “Bellybutton”.
The boys has been asking to watch this movie repeatedly. The official title, according to Big Brother, is “Robin Good and the Not So Very Good Merry Men”. Perhaps Big Idea should chance the name…makes good sense to me! :)

My son LOVES the Veggie Tales! We have the entire Chick-Fil-A set of audio cds and we watch the movies on Netflix, almost constantly it seems! He actually knows most of the “Silly Songs with Larry” by heart and loves to imitate his voice! LOL! He would be absolutely floored if we were to win one that he has not seen or heard of yet! I love them for the morals and Christ-like values they impart in an engaging format.

Being a bit older than some of your readers (I’d imagine anyway). I have to say that we have a LONG history with Veggie Tales. I remember watching the very first ones in Sunday nursery duty. The first time I played a VT video for my oldest I prayed she’d enjoy it. I knew she was too little (at the time) to really get the message, but I wanted her to become familiar with the characters. VT was and still is a hit in our home. The makers of VT are genius!
