Where is Jesus? Magic Watercolor Art

Where is Jesus Magic Watercolor Art

We have been learning all about the events leading up to Jesus’ death and resurrection this week (thanks to our felt banner from heartFELT Truths).  As I was thinking of ways to incorporate more Resurrection activities into our week this morning at Community Bible Study, I remembered the “magic” watercolor technique and how simple and easy it is to use!

I first made it as a craft…but then quickly realized it would be nice to have a printable for busy families or Bible classes.  Feel free to use and share the printable!

Here’s what you’ll need:  The “Where is Jesus?” Printable on Cardstock, Watercolors, and Oil Pastels.  If you don’t have oil pastels, you can use regular crayons, just be sure to press hard and trace over your writing a few times.

We received the Oil Pastels compliments of CraftProjectIdeas.com.

1.  Print out the “Where is Jesus?” Printable on Cardstock.  Use a white oil pastel or crayon to write “He has Risen” on the inside of the tomb.

Watch his/her surprise as the watercolor resists the crayon!  If your child can read (or is learning), have him/her read the message aloud.

Gingerbread Party Playdate

Hello! I’m Rachel from RV Parties… and I love parties. A lot. I’m so excited Jenae asked me to share a holiday tradition–so naturally I picked a tradition that’s also a party! Get ready to hear all about our Gingerbread Party Playdate–an activity that can be easily adapted to do at home with family, with a group of two year olds or a bunch of kindergartners. The sky is the limit!

This Gingerbread Party Playdate was a GREAT holiday activity for preschoolers. Aside from it being tons of fun, it’s easy to throw together an impressive party with Christmas decorations you already have and our FREE printables.

We started off the event by having kiddos press pre-made dough into these great molds.  (You could also roll it out and let them cut it!) The kids came over to watch (from a distance) as we slid the trays into the oven to bake.

As the cookies baked, the kids reconvened around the table to listen to the story of the Gingerbread Man! It was so fun for them to hear the details of the story mirroring the activities we were doing together.

After we finished the story we went to check on the cookies–but they were all gone! Just like in the story, the Gingerbread men had all run away.  The kiddos searched around the house for them–under the tree, in the toy bins around the kitchen… but couldn’t find them! (For an older crew, you could have a grown up read clues to lead them to different rooms to search for the cookies–and even have the Gingerbread men cause some “Elf on the Shelf” type mayhem in each room!)

The kids found their way back to the decorating room and were happy to see their treats.

They quickly got straight to decorating–and even quicker to eating.  We used mini squirt bottles so that the kids could apply icing in the least messy way possible and lined up bright colored sprinkles for the kids to scoop on.

How cute are our little chefs in the aprons and chef hats? We swooned over the embroidery that matched our little gingerbread man perfectly. Such little cuties.

And if you’ll indulge me for a moment–here are the goodies! We joked that the theme of the party was sugar… dipped in sugar… topped with sugar.  But it’s the holidays, so it’s all fair game!

The treats are easy to keep relatively simple–plain white cupcakes, boxed Pepperidge Farm cookies, and Gingerbread Man Peeps, make for a darling table! If you want to make it a little fancier, dipped pretzels, oreos, marshmallows, cake balls and cake pops add a little extra pop to the party. Our fantastic vendors are listed below–all items are available for purchase if you aren’t up for making your own sweets!

Setting a table has become one of my favorite parts of party planning–glass Frappuccino bottles are cute with labels and straws–and these glass plates from IKEA were perfect for catching stray sprinkles!

In addition to more sweets than any child could possible need, our little chefs took home the Gingerbread Man book, a coloring book (available as part of the free printable pack!) and the most darling cookies I’ve ever seen from J&J Bakeshop. It broke my heart a little to eat them!

Definitely a SWEET party.

Starting School is a Big “Dilly”: Printable Tags for Dilly Bars

Dairy Queen Dilly Bars were always a big treat for us growing up.  Rarely do our kids get to indulge in them, but  the first day of school calls for an extra-special treat!  These printable tags (which were born out of the desire to do something special for my niece and nephew’s first day of preschool) are an easy way to make a delicious treat even more personal!

Print out your labels here, including Preschool, Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st through 8th grades.

You can attach the tag directly onto the Dilly Bar package or you can put the Dilly Bar in a brown lunch sack and attach it to the bag (like I did).  I chose to do it this way because I didn’t want the perspiration from the unfreezing of the Dilly Bar to make the ink in the tag run.  :)

What is your favorite “Back to School” treat???

Printable Morning Routine Cards

It’s August, which means school is starting soon…and so are the crazy, chaotic mornings.  Help minimize the frustration by using these Morning Routine Cards!

The purpose of these cards is to encourage a bit of independence in the process of getting ready for the day.  And if you use a magnetic knife bar like we did, they are SUPER easy to rearrange and change (if needed).

Big Brother will be going to preschool 3 mornings each week at a local church-based preschool.  School starts at 8:30am.  I am the antithesis of a morning person, so establishing a morning routine is key for us this year.  I decided I would start a few weeks early because I figured it would take a while to get the hang of this new Morning Routine Card system.

I couldn’t have been more wrong.  The night after we hung these Routine Cards in his room, he woke me up by saying, “Mommy, I already did all of my cards!”  Sure enough…toothpaste on the chin, shirt on (backwards), and bed made!  I was pleasantly surprised, to say the least!!!

And best of all, I want to share these Morning Routine Cards with each of you!  Download and print your choice of 4 colors by clicking on the links below!

BLUE Morning Routine Cards

PINK Morning Routine Cards

GREEN Morning Routine Cards

RED Morning Routine Cards

To make the cards:

1.  Print your cards.  I decided to mount them (and round the corners) onto some red scrapbook paper to add a little bit of contrast.

2.  Laminate the cards.  This step definitely isn’t required but it will help them hold up longer.  I have used this laminator for the last couple of years and I love it!  I buy the generic pouches at Sam’s (a box of 200 for $20) and have had great success!

3.  Add your magnets on the back.  I pieced the remaining adhesive magnet roll I had left (that was sent to me for free from CraftProjectIdeas.com).  Ideally, you would magnetize the entire back…but I just used what I had on hand!

To hold the cards, I purchased this 18-inch Magnetic Knife Holder from Amazon.  I wanted something that could easily be adjusted and something that we could add on to later down the road (once Big Brother can do his own hair, for example).  :)  This has worked perfectly for us and is sturdy enough to survive my rough boys!!

And here it is on the wall, underneath my favorite picture of all time

Yep, his shirt is on backwards.  But he dressed himself without me even having to ask, so I’m not complaining!

In addition to these Morning Routine Cards, I also bought a hanging closet organizer.  They have some that already have the weekday names on them, but I opted for the cheaper route and then attached my own with some packing tape.  :)  I also wanted to make sure we had a Sunday slot as well since we want our boys to look nice for church on Sundays.

On the days that Big Brother goes to Preschool and Church, he will have clothes ready and waiting for him in his closet.  On the days that we are at home, he gets to choose whatever he wants to wear.  After much thought, this was the best way I could come up with to ensure he isn’t dressed like a pauper when he goes to school and church but also still gets to show some independence by choosing his clothing on the “off” days.

*After taking these pictures, I moved the weekday signs to the bottom of each shelf instead of the top.  It was much less confusing this way.

It’s been almost a week since we’ve implemented our new Morning Routine Cards and closet organizer system and it has been AMAZING!!!

My Potential Future Project…Making some Morning Routine Cards for MYSELF.  First on the routine chart would be “Get your rear end out of bed before the kids.”  Do you think they have clipart for that???  ;)
