Coming in November: 30 Days of Intentional Acts of Kindness with your Kids

I’ve never really liked the term random acts of kindness. I want whatever kindness I show to be out of the overflow of the Holy Spirit living within me. And I want these acts to be a daily habit in my life.

I’ve heard that it takes 21 days to make something a habit. Unless, of course, you’re like me and have issues following through with things…then I would say 30 days is more realistic.

I love the idea of doing something intentional for someone else every single day with my children in tow. This is how I want to be remembered when I am dead and gone…and this is the example that I want to set for my children. I have so many amazing people around me who are genuinely thoughtful of others…who think of others before themselves. Unfortunately, this doesn’t characterize me at the present time. But I’m hoping to change that. And I’m inviting you to join me on my journey as well.

So, here’s the first thing I’m doing on this journey…I’m going to be fervently praying for more of God’s spirit in my life and in my heart, especially over these next 14 days leading up to November 1st. If  kindness is one of the fruits of the spirit, then I’m going to need an abundance of God’s spirit in my life!

And secondly, I’m going to actively seek out opportunities to show this God-breathed kindness to others. Not randomly. Purposely. Intentionally.

It doesn’t have to be extravagant or complicated, just a small gesture that (a) lets someone know that they are appreciated and (b) inconspicuously reveals the true reason for such kindness.

So…will you join me???? Please??? Pretty please???

On November 1st, I’ll be hosting a kickoff link-up! I think we could all use some inspiration and ideas for showing kindness to others…so share your intentional kindness for the day with the rest of us and be prepared to be inspired by others!

Then, once a week throughout the month of November, I’ll host another link-up. You can recap your week of intentional acts of kindness and then share them. If you’d like to join, feel free to take grab this button!

If you don’t have a blog, you can always share your intentional acts of kindness on my Facebook page. Feel free to post pictures on the wall too!

Now…Who’s with me???

  2. we will be joining you! i cannot wait to show my kids instead of tell them more about helping others and being a good person!

  3. I just started doing 33 acts of kindness in honor of my parents upcoming 33rd anniversary. I’m recording all of the AoK to give to them in a book for their anniversary gift. It has been so much fun thus far. My first AoK was giving the guy behind me at Michael’s my 50% off coupon. He was very grateful. If only we could all live like this all the time. My daughter has really enjoyed participating in the AoK with me.
I’ll be joining you in November!

  4. I love love love this idea. So true about being intentional instead of random. I think it is important to show kindness to others, but to also teach our kids that it is not about what they give us in return. We show kindness to others because it makes us feel good, not because we get something. I love this blog.

  5. Great idea! Never to early to start. Sometimes it takes a bloggy world to remind you about the littlest things in life that matters the most. l am grabbing your button, wonderful. Thanks :)

  6. We did this last year on our own and the children enjoyed it more than the recipients. We have kept up with our traditions and it has morphed into a kindness Tuesday! I’d love to join you this year =)

  7. count me in! such an incredible idea, and perfect for the season of parenting i’m in! I need a fresh dose of joy in my daily life with my daughter, and what better way than to focus on kindness to and with her!

  8. Such a fabulous idea! Such a great time of year to be doing this also- I’m off to add your button and am excited to be thinking of things my boys and I can do and share! Thanks for all your efforts and encouragement to join!

  9. Thank you so much for your encouragement, inspiration and transparency. I have been in such a depressed self focused state, I think this is just the thing to help get me out of being me focused. I look forward to joining you on this journey.

  10. I love how you have said “intentional” rather than “random”…this is exactly how I feel about it too :)
I started a journey of “acts of kindness” in the beginning of this year and I really wanted it to be “intentional”, however, my acts have always been rather random :). So it is with a renewed purpose that I continue to strive for intentionality (is that the correct word?) in this regard.

    Georgia :)
