Dr. Seuss’ I Can Read with My Eyes Shut

I had never read I Can Read With My Eyes Shut! until we checked it out from the library last week. We really enjoyed this book!

This is the first page of the book:

I can read in red,
I can read in blue.
I can read in pickle color too!”
So, what better thing to do than make our very own reading “glasses”?!?!
All you need are some colored pipe-cleaners.
1. Take two red (or whichever color you would like) colored pipe cleaners. Bend then in the shape of a pair of glasses. Attach them together with a small piece cut off another pipe cleaner. Make sure to bend all of the wire edges inward so that they don’t poke your child.
2. Let your child enjoy wearing them as you read.
Sadly, Big Brother wasn’t all that fond of our reading glasses. He wore them for a few minutes and then wanted to take them off.
If your child is a little older, you could ask him/her to draw a picture of their favorite place to read! We’re still working on making people in our pictures, so I didn’t think Big Brother was quite ready for that! :)

  1. I Can Read with my Eyes Shut is definitely one of our favorite Dr. Seuss books. I LOVE LOVE LOVE those glasses. We bought a huge container of pipe cleaners and other than making spiders out of them (with a piece of egg carton)I've been at a loss… I think my kiddo will love this! Thanks!

  2. Love it. Using the song Mat Man from Handwritting without tears ( along with the wood pcs) really helped my students start drawing people in thier art work.

  3. What a cute idea! This is one of the few Seuss books I ahve never read. We are currently enjoying a fun-filled Seuss week as well!

New follower & glad to have found you!
