Fizzy Flag 4th of July Activity

Fizzy Flag 4th of July activity

We are so excited to be participating in “A Very Toddler 4th” series with Kristina from Toddler Approved! Kristina will be focusing on younger toddlers (18+ months) and I will focus more on the 3-year old crowd. This Fizzy Flag 4th of July Activity is a super fun way to blend science, art, and patriotism! :)

This is yet another example where my hoarding issue with caps/lids turns out to be something great! I just think they make the best manipulatives…plus they are free (once you’ve consumed the liquid inside) and it is a way to recycle them! You can check out some other ways to use caps/lids here, here, and here.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Recycled Caps in red, white, and blue

Vinegear

Baking Soda

Squeeze bottles

Tray

Liquid Watercolors

1. Lay out the colored caps/lids to look like an American Flag.

2. Fill the squeeze bottles halfway with vinegar and add some liquid watercolor to make a blue bottle and a red bottle (leave the 3rd bottle clear).

3. Add some baking soda to each bottle cap (I used about 1 teaspoon per cap).

5. If possible, try to encourage your child to squeeze the red bottle onto the red caps, blue onto blue caps, and clear onto the white caps.

The end result turned out to be super pretty after all the fizz died down!
