Happy President’s Day! In honor of this “holiday”, I thought I would share with you a modified version of a project I used to do in my classroom. I usually had a parent-helper trace the outlines of each child’s profile using an overhead projector…but since I know my children won’t sit still for more than 2 seconds (let alone 2 minutes), I opted to do this another way.
Here’s what you’ll need: a printed picture of the profile of your child (snapped quickly before they can move!), scissors, and construction paper.
1. Print out your pictures onto an 8×10 piece of paper (in the lowest quality resolution…you just need to see the outline of their profile).
2. Cut out around the outline of their profile.
3. Trace that onto a black piece of construction paper.
4. Cut out.
5. Cut out some stars and stripes. I just freehanded the stars and then cut them out.
6. Let your little one loose decorating a white piece of construction paper with the stars and stripes.
Beautiful!
7. Glue the profile onto the top of the stars and stripes design.
And here are a few of my favorite books about presidents! Most of these books are more appropriate for older children, but I’m sure even little ones would enjoy them as well.
super cute! …and quick thinking too!
…no holidays here in New Brunswick Canada, just another Monday ;)
Great craft! I have the perfect book to go with this. I will definitely do this next year and link back to you!
