Olympic Balance Beam

The gymnastic events are my absolute favorite part of the Olympics! I enjoy watching the floor routines, but I especially love to watch the vaulting and balance beam routines. Although we certainly won’t be doing any handstands or back handsprings, we can still have a little fun with our own DIY balance beam while getting some great gross motor practice in as well!

Here’s what you’ll need:  a long 2 x 4 and some smaller pieces of wood to act as risers.

Lay the smaller pieces of wood under each end of the larger 2 x 4. Add more risers depending on the age of your child(ren)!

  1. I love the gymnastics too, but I get very stressed watching them on the beam. I love this balancing activity. We are doing this activity later this week too.

  2. Thanks for sharing on the link-up! I love the idea of having the kids “compete” in Olympics events! We have a random balance beam in my garage and I am going to do this with my kids:).
