Transportation Song and Pretend Play

Singing is a great way to introduce your child to language in a fun and meaningful way! Kids love to sing! Even if you think you have a terrible singing voice (like I do), swallow your pride and sing. You’ll be glad you did!

Here is a fun “transportation” song to sing with your little one! The best part is you can use it to turn into some great pretend play! We used a toy car to pretend we were driving down the road. Big Brother informed me that he would meet me at the restaurant…I’m wondering what that says about our eating-out habits? Big Brother also used his arms to make a human airplane and a basket and fly swatters as a rowboat!

I apologize in advance for making you listen to my terrible singing voice once again! Whatever pride I had long ago is now gone…perhaps one of you would like to be my stand-in singer!?!?

The lyrics are sung to the tune of “If You’re Happy and You Know It.”
If the road’s the way you go,
Take a car.
If the road’s the way you go,
Take a car.
If the road’s the way you go,
You can take it fast or slow.
If the road’s the way you go,
Take a car.
If the sky’s the way you go,
Take a plane.
If the sky’s the way you go,
Take a plane.
If the sky’s the way you go,
You can take it high or low.
If the sky’s the way you go,
Take a plane.
If the sea’s the way you go,
Take a boat.
If the sea’s the way you go,
Take a boat.
If the sea’s the way you go,
You can take it fast or slow,
If the sea’s the way you go,
Take a boat.

Thank you for sharing this song! Ori LOVES songs and always asks for more. He also is still into cars, trucks, and planes. I think we will be singing this a lot at our house from now on.

Great song! My son is currently in a "Name-O" phase. I have to make up songs to the tune of "There was a farmer who had a dog…" and spell everyone's name.
