I first saw the idea for this crayon wreath on Pinterest. I instantly fell in love and knew I needed to make one. Plus, crayons are so cheap right now and the only other material I had to buy was the foam wreath. And did I tell you I have the perfect spot for it???
By the way…this wreath is intended to be indoors. Believe me, you don’t want waxy crayon running down your front door!
Before I walk you through the process, I want to tell you a little secret. I’m not crafty. Nope. I typically don’t even enjoy doing “adult” crafts because they never turn out like I want. Kid’s crafts that I make with Big Brother, on the other hand, typically turn out how I expect them to! So I may or may not have torn off the crayons and started over when almost half had already been hot-glued on…

Here’s what you’ll need: a 12″ wreath (or whatever size you want), 2-3 24-count packages of crayons, hot glue, and extra fabric.
1. Cut your fabric into strips a couple inches wide…pinking shears keep the edges from fraying.
2. Wrap the fabric strips around the foam wreath, securing the edges with a hot glue gun.
All done…no need for it to be perfect since it will be covered up.
3. Use a hot glue gun to glue the crayons on the wreath.
Continue until you’ve covered the entire wreath.
4. To make the “flowers”, just fold a piece of scrap fabric (hot glue the fold if you need to) until it is about 1/2 to 1 inch wide. If you’re looking for a prettier flower tutorial, you might want to look elsewhere. My “flowers” just kind of look like rolled up pieces of cloth. :)
5. Start rolling them up, making sure to keep it tight.
6. Hot glue the edges. See? I told you they just look like rolled up pieces of cloth!
But on the wreath they look so much prettier.
For the hanger, I just used a piece of ribbon and hot glued and pinned the edges. It’s been up for over a week and hasn’t fallen yet…so I’m thinking this is good enough.

What’s your favorite school supply???

Super cute idea! I LOVE crayons :)
Adorable! Did you put this on your front door? I’d love to but worry that the sun might melt the crayons, especially since I get some wicked-hot morning sun on my brown metal door. :( I think I’ll just have to find a spot to hang this inside! Thanks for sharing!
I just added this helpful tidbit of info. No, I put it on our pantry door. I am pretty sure the crayons would melt all over the place if it was on our front door! :)
That’s the cutest wreath ever!
Oh, crayons are definitely my favorite school supply. I actually did a blog round up on them a few weeks back. Feel free to check it out.

I will be making one of these to hang on my kindergarten classroom’s door!
I’m thinking of using the idea for a picture frame. My oldest starts pre-school in a couple of weeks.
That looks awesome! I’m so impressed, thanks for sharing!
I have that pinned on Pinterest too, but I’ve been too chicken to try it out. I am golden in the kids crafts department, but lacking in the adult crafts department, just like you. Thanks for the tutorial. I just stocked up on crayons so I think I’ll have to get brave enough to try this one.
So cute! Wish it wouldn’t melt hanging on my door here in Las Vegas!
This is so darn cute! I just pinned it. I am a new follower to your blog. Thanks for the fab ideas!
This is BEAUTIFUL!!!!
I LOVE this idea! I had to share it on FB :) My favorite school supplies are new markers.
Oohh – this is great! I made one of these years ago with wooden hoops – like the kind you use for needlepoint – I like this one so much better. Roses to boot!
I will be buying a few more boxes of crayons! I think it would be a great teacher’s Christmas gift!
Very cute idea. I think yours turned out just great.
I am so glad to have found this!! I seen the idea on Pinterest but there were no instructions. I have been looking for ideas for my daycare mamas and this is perfect!! Thank you so much for posting this for all of us to see. You rock!!
