Minecraft Impressionist Paintings

Post by Contributing Writer Kim of Life Over C’s

Before I share this, you should know that I have no painting skills whatsoever. With the exception of painting every piece of furniture I can get my hands on, I do not have the skills to “teach” my kids painting. Digital design, interior design, “crafting, yes. Painting, no. I say that to let you know that you should never be afraid that your kids will not be able to learn to paint just because you can’t. And they can be quite good. I had nothing to do with these paintings that my kids made, except that I was in the room making sure my 4-year-old didn’t paint the couch. These Minecraft Impressionist Paintings (my art loving hubby said that’s what they are called) are entirely kid-made.

Do you struggle with keeping your kids off video games? It seems that more often than not my kids go on restriction from video games because they try to play when they are not allowed…We have a very strict weekends-only video game policy even in the summer.

So, what’s a Minecraft-loving kid to do when they can’t actually play?

Act out scenes that they’ve created, tell stories about their adventures, write down their ideas.

And paint their ideas!

One picture they created is a picture of them in their Minecraft world.

With their favorite YouTube Minecraft character. The other night they informed my husband and I that they wanted to be “YouTubers” when they grow up, so they can share their Minecraft adventures with the world and become millionaires. (A kid can dream, right?!?!)

I love how they remembered to make everything pixelated. In fact, at one point one of my girls made a fluffy cloud and then remembered that in Minecraft the cloud would actually be squared off, so she adjusted it.

The one thing that always amazes me is that kids can put themselves into any imaginary world and just take off! There are no boundaries.

So much fun to put that imagination on paper!

Have your kids brought art into their love for video games? We’d love to hear about it!
