30 for 30 Challenge: Day 1 (3D Angry Birds)
I’m so glad I have you all for accountability! I woke up this morning feeling irritable and dreary, much like the weather around here. We went to the zoo for a short while this morning (since it was so much cooler than normal) and by the time we were headed home, all I wanted to do was put the boys down for a nap so that I could take one too!
Remembering this was the first day of the challenge, I mustered up the energy to play 3D Angry Birds with the boys for 30 minutes straight (using our Melissa & Doug cardboard blocks)! I AM SO GLAD I DID!!!! We had so much fun together and it was great to see them engaged with one another and with me!
The boys are a wee bit obsessed with Angry Birds right now, although they rarely get to play the actual game. Our collection of plush Angry Birds has grown significantly since the original post (thanks to the grandparents), which only furthered the excitement of the game. :)
This was a great opportunity to work together and take turns knocking the towers down (even Mommy got in on the rotation). Plus, the boys seemed to get along much better when I was involved than when they are left on their own to play together.
And the thirty minutes actually flew by…if it wasn’t time for naps/quiet time, we probably would have continued the fun. :)
What did you and your child(ren) play today???
That’s so funny! we played with our melissa and doug blocks today too! I kept looking at the clock for the first 5 minutes then 45 minutes later I realized my “time was up” and we were having so much fun. Thanks for encouraging us to start June with a bang. I love happy kids!
We played with sidewalk chalk on the driveway. We drew letters, numbers , and traced our feet.
I love the Angry Birds with the blocks, I never thought of using those, we just throw them around the house and make noises. I did my 30 minutes today, with my 4 year old and two 15 Month Olds. Not sure the angry bird thing would work, the twins would knock it down before we could even build it. We started playing cars, then threw a ball around, then played hide and seek. My 4 year old would hide with the twins right beside him pointing to where he was hiding, lol. I have a friend doing the challenge with me too!
Good for you! Those look like fun blocks. Would you recommend them?
Yes, we LOVE these blocks! They are super-sturdy and fun to build “big” things with! :)
Jenae-thanks so much for reminding us of what is really important. My boys are taking turns deciding what they want to do. Today they made an obstacle course in the living room and when Andrew chose this for the activity he said, “mom, you are really going to jump over that pillow (it was high)?”….I did and we had a great time. They love so much for us to be invested in what they think is important. This challenge was long overdue for me :).
I sat down with my 4 and 16 year old and played Zingo, Sight Word Bingo, and colored. The first 30 was fine but as soon as it was up the 2 girls started irritating each other. I might have to find the blocks, my youngest enjoys playing angry birds and would probably have so much fun.
I played sack race with my kids today…just took pillow cases that needed washing anyway and let them have an indoor race. I had fun with them telling them to also pretend that the sacks were their skins and they were snakes and had to crawl around…too cute!
That is such a fun idea! I think everyone has been a little obsessed with that game. I helped the kids play with our chickens for a long time. One of the boys I care for is a little bit scared of them, so I tried to help him become more familiar. He actually put his hand on one of them to help me hold it. Thanks for sharing your play time activity! Hope to see you at True Aim.
I’m inspired! THANK YOU!
My 20 month old son and I played with his wooden Melissa & Doug blocks. First we built a tunnel for his cars, then I handed him blocks to see how high of a tower he could build (7 before it fell!). He surprised me by telling me a certain block was a triangle (unprompted , and it was!). Proud Momma moment :)
The girls and I played at the park for about 45 minutes not including time to walk there and back. Appoximately 10 minutes with a 3 1/2 and 5 year old and crossing two busy streets. Whew! :)
I climbed on the equipment and swung on the swings. I love it especially when the weather is nice.
