National Fire Prevention Week
Next week (October 9-15) is National Fire Prevention Week. We take fire pretty seriously in this house…my husband was badly burned burning brush in our yard last year. Had it not been for the pond in our backyard that he jumped in, the accident could have easily been fatal. Thanks to the staff at our doctor’s office bending over backwards and spending up to 2 hours each day scrubbing his burns for the first 10 days, he didn’t have to spend a week in the burn unit.
I thought I would get a head start on the activities so that you have time to prepare for them with your own family. Over the next few days, I’ll be sharing some activities related to fire, fire safety, and firefighters that are appropriate for preschoolers and early elementary students (and maybe an activity or two for the younger tikes as well).
In the meantime, here are a few resources:
- National Fire Protection Agency
- Sparky.org (an interactive site for kids with games and activities)
- Family Fire Safety Checklist
- U.S. Fire Administration for Kids
- Smoke Alarm Pictorial
We take Fandango-whoo hooo! Here’s hoping for a fun date night!
