Playdough & Alphabet Stamps

Playdough and Alphabet Stamps

This was a serendipitous idea that came while the boys were playing with playdough today. As I watched them play with the cookie cutters, I grabbed our Melissa & Doug Alphabet Stamps (my favorite stamps ever) and encouraged a little learning in the midst of their playdough fun.

Here’s what you’ll need:  Playdough and Alphabet Stamps!

Roll out your play dough…

…and begin stamping! Little Brother practiced stamping his name while Big Brother made various word families!

To make word families:  Stamp the rime (end of the word…and yes, “rime” is spelled correctly) onto the playdough. Add the onset (beginning sound). Once you’re ready to change the onset, fold over the edge of the playdough.

Carefully use a small roller to roll out the first letter, leaving the rime in tact.

Continue making words and learning about letters!

This is such a great idea!! Thank you for sharing it!!

On rainy days, my son and I like to do lessons from Spirituality for Kids (http://www.spiritualityforkids.com/) as they are fun and easy ways for him to understand how to make good decisions, know right from wrong and why it is fun and good to work hard! Don’t let the name “Spirituality” confuse you as this is something for religion or belief system – it is about the common good we all have inside!

I haven’t posted anything like that here (although it is a great idea). I think you must have seen it on a different blog? Sorry I can’t be of more help.

      Thanks.

I will use this idea with sight words with my sped kids in my classroom. I always am looking for ideas I can use that are not too messy. Printing is too messy in my classroom, but playdough is easy to use.

It is so great to see you using lowercase letters. So often kids come to school writing only in capital letters and this is such a difficult habit to break.
