DIY Toddler Golf Clubs and Putting Green

For the first time in over 100 years, golf will be an event in this summer’s Olympics! Our boys are participating in Junior Golf this year and it seemed only fitting that Little Sister get in on the golfing fun. These DIY Toddler Golf Clubs made for the perfect golf-inspired activity for our “A Very Toddler Olympics” series with Toddler Approved.

Admittedly, I know nothing about golf. I had to ask my husband all the correct terminology for putting green, pin, etc. while writing this post. I have played golf once in my life and do not have much of a desire to attempt it again (although maybe if it is something I can do with my boys as they get older, I might reconsider). :)

Either way, we decided to make Little Sister her own set of “golf clubs”. I was at Lowe’s a few weeks ago and looking at the PVC pipe (for some unknown reason, hanging out at hardware stores is not a habit of mine) and noticed that the elbow PVC piece on the end of a straight piece sort of resembled a golf club. I snatched some PVC up and decided to make our own clubs. I can’t remember the diameter of our PVC…I think it might have been 2 inches. In hindsight, I wish I would have gotten thinner PVC because I think it would have been easier for toddler fingers to grasp.

Here’s what you’ll need:

2 2-feet pieces of PVC Pipe

4 Caps the same diameter as the PVC

90-degree PVC elbow (same diameter)

Spray Paint

Cardboard Box

Lid

Drinking Straw

Ping Pong Balls or Ball Pit Balls

1. Gather your materials.

2. Place the PVC elbow onto one end and then caps on both ends.

3. (Optional) Use spray paint to paint the clubs. I chose red and blue. You can see the Olympic Rings from this post and this post were painted on the same plastic sheet. :)

5. To make the putting green, I just cut apart an Amazon box, spray painted it, and cut a circular hole on one end for the cup. I used a red straw for the pin (or flag, as I like to call it). :)

Little Sister didn’t quite know how to handle the club at first. We tried using ping pong balls first, but they were a bit too small. I got out the ball pit balls instead and they were much easier for her to hit.
