Fun Baby Shower Decoration Ideas On A Budget

First published Oct 2010. Updated 2019.

I hosted a baby shower for a dear friend of mine this past Monday. I had LOTS of help, especially with bringing food, which made it very enjoyable! Here are just a few things I did for baby shower decorations ideas on a budget. I didn’t spend a dime on decorations… I used scrapbook paper I had on hand to make most everything. Since I don’t scrapbook anymore, this was a great way to use it. :)

Baby Shower Decoration Ideas On A Budget

1. Baby Shower Banner

This personalized baby shower banner for a boy was made by hand-drawing the letters on pieces of scrapbook paper, cutting them out, and gluing them onto half-size pieces of cardstock. The individual banner pieces were hung using mini-clothespins I had previously bought for a game. Super simple and cost me nothing!

2. Baby Shower Table Decorations

These cute baby shower star decorations I made by using Microsoft Word to print two sizes of star cutouts. I then used them as a template to trace the stars onto scrapbook paper and cut them out. You could also free draw them if you want. Don’t want to use stars? What about using other cute shapes such as butterflies, hearts, or even animal silhouettes using various colors and patterns of scrapbook paper.

3. Bible Verses For Baby Shower

I used picture frames I already had and just added a special bible verse about children (1 Samuel 1: 27) and the hand-cut stars.

A few other bibles verses you may like to use:

For you created my innmost being, you knit me together in my mother’s womb. Psalm 139:13

And the child grew and became strong in spirit… Luke 1:80

Every good and perfect gift is from above… James 1:17

Children are a gift from the Lord, they are a reward from Him. Psalm 127: 3

4. The Meaning Of Baby’s Name

I love knowing the meaning of names! I  looked up the meaning of  the boy baby name my friend had chosen, “Samuel” and then typed it out on a Word document. Or you could simply write it out on a piece of card. Once again, I added hand-cut stars and put it inside a picture frame I already had.

Here are some pictures of baby shower decorations from Little Brother’s Baby Shower. My friend Kristen hosted it and did an amazing job with the decorations!

5. Baby Shower Diaper Cake

This baby shower diaper cake was made by my friend Valerie.

How do you make a diaper cake? It can be made by rolling up diapers and securing them with a rubber band. Arrange the rolled diapers and use a larger rubber band to group each tier. Make sure to cover the rubber band with decorative ribbon. After the baby shower, the guest of honor can then use the diapers once the baby arrives!

2. Decorate With Nursery Decor

Kristen asked to use the wooden letters we had already bought and painted for Little Brother’s room. She then used picture frames she hand on hand to place her hand-made pictures in. She topped it all off with some cute plain white onesies. :)

The pictures on each side of the mantle are now the prints I have framed in the boy’s bathroom of our home. I have added a few other colors of polka-dots and a green mat and these baby shower decorations are hanging proudly above the towel rack! Talk about versatile!

Sonogram pictures and die-cut letters make for easy and yet special baby shower decorations as well.

Best Tip For Hosting A Baby Shower:

When hosting a baby shower on a budget, recruit lots of help with the food. This will make your job so much easier, as you can have a clean house (and clean kitchen) once the guests arrive and don’t have to worry about doing the cooking.

This is more of an activity than a decorating idea, but I LOVE this idea! I saw it at a shower a friend hosted, and then I used it myself when I was a host. :o)

Choose some white or cream construction paper or cardstock, and label them front and back with each letter of the alphabet. Spread them out on a table with crayons or markers. Guests choose a letter and draw a picture of something that starts with that letter. Make sure they label their picture, "F is for Fox" and "by (name)." At the end of the party, gather up all the pages, have them laminated if you wish, and bind them together into a special handmade alphabet book for the new baby!
